Things to know

  • Daylight only - Rocky Mountaineer travels only by day. The train stops for the night in Kamloops and passengers stay in a hotel in town; packages normally include the hotel and the transfers, but check your booking.
  • Service levels - SilverLeaf has a single-level glass-domed coach with meals served at your seat. GoldLeaf has a two-level dome coach with a dining room downstairs and an outdoor viewing platform.
  • Time zone - clocks go back one hour from Mountain to Pacific time near the eastern edge of Glacier National Park, not at the Alberta–BC border: Field and Golden keep Mountain time (eastbound, forward one hour).
  • Season - the train runs from spring to autumn only, usually April to October. Check Rocky Mountaineer's current schedule.
  • Freight first - the line belongs to CPKC and CN, and the train can be held for freight trains, so arrival times are approximate.

GPS may not be available everywhere. Tunnels, deep canyons and some rail cars can block the signal. The app estimates where the train is for a few minutes from its last speed, but cards may come late until the signal returns.
