Things to know
- Frequency - the train does not run every day. Check VIA's timetable before planning connections.
- Two trains in one - as far as Hervey-Jonction the Senneterre cars run coupled to the Jonquière train. Make sure you board the right cars: they are separated at Hervey.
- Request stops - most stops north of La Tuque are flag stops for outfitters, clubs, cottages and remote communities. The train only stops if a passenger is waiting or has asked; VIA asks for at least 24 hours' notice to be picked up or dropped off in the forest.
- Food - services on board are limited, so bring enough to eat and drink for a long day.
- No signal - there is little or no mobile coverage for most of the way between La Tuque and Senneterre.

GPS may not be available everywhere. Tunnels, deep canyons and some rail cars can block the signal. The app estimates where the train is for a few minutes from its last speed, but cards may come late until the signal returns.
